On-Site (At The Retreat)
Swim in the spring-fed lake.

Take a rowboat paddle around the quiet shady shores amongst the ferns and West Coast rainforest. ( 2 rowboats are available).

Fly-fish for rainbow trout. (Cook them on the BBQ).

Hike around the lake.

Play Horseshoes or Croquet.

An expansive lawn offers sunshine or shade. There are plenty of places to read a book or relish the sun.

Enjoy the river rock fireplace indoors or relax around the Chiminea outside.

Soothe sore muscles in the Sundance "Altimar" Hot tub/SPA while star-gazing the black sky.

"In-home" Massage or Spa treatments can be pre-arranged during your holiday.

Musical concerts hosted by singer-songwriter and entertainer Bill Humphries are enjoyed by request.

Within Walking Distance
This lodging is a 10 minute walk to a white sandy beach in East Sooke Park.
The world - famous hiking trails of East Sooke Regional Park are well-marked and considered to be one of the most scenic coastal trails in BC. Take a short hike to see the Petroglyphs (about 1 hour round-trip), or walk the loop around Creke Point back to the parking lot, or hike to the other end of the Park (about 4 - 8 hours depending). Arrange for pick-up at the other end.

Walk to the cafe on the beach at Becher Bay Marina to enjoy wonderful homemade breads, wholesome lunches, and a wide variety of coffees.

Tour an organic greenhouse. (Sooke Harbour House is one of our clients).

Tour a unique Japanese garden.

Charter an afternoon sailing trip or Marine Scenic Tour with your host Bill on board our 36' Sailboat. (He usually drops a line!)

There is no reason to drive anywhere during your holiday!



Driving Required
Visit the natural harbours, beaches, and rainforests around Sooke.

Between Sooke and Port Renfrew are many beautiful beaches within a short driving distance along West Coast Road, including Gordon's Beach, Muir Creek Beach, French Beach, China Beach, Mystic Beach, Sombrio Beach, as well as the world -famous Botanical Beach.

The Juan de Fuca Trail follows the Pacific coastline for 47 km, and is designated as a wilderness hiking experience.

Go biking or walk the Galloping Goose Regional Trail from Sooke to Victoria.

Hire a fishing charter for salmon or halibut.

Go on a Whale-Watching tour ( Orcas May - October )

Surfing, diving, kayaking, and golfing are activities popular in the Sooke area.

Visit the Sooke Potholes.

Discover intriguing galleries, studios, and workshops of local artisans.

Go to Victoria for the day. Mountain Springs Retreat is a great place " to come home to ".

Closest Restaurants
Walk down the road to a unique dining experience in a little cafe on the beach . It's called The Smokin' Tuna.

An 8 minute drive takes you to the 17 Mile House, a historic 1890's English-style Pub with a good menu and locally-brewed beer.

A Cold Beer and Wine Store is at the same location.

Sooke has a wide variety of popular eateries, all within 15 - 20 minutes drive. Tearooms, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, pubs, the Legion, a Sushi bar, and the internationally-known Sooke Harbour House call Sooke home.

The rural community of Metchosin boasts the My Chosen Cafe, a family restaurant with an extensive menu, and only 15 minutes from here.

A corner store is 3 km away.
